Led by an Expert: Tom Knapp
Our head coach, Tom Knapp (read more about him in our feature blog), brings years of axe throwing expertise and a keen eye for detail. Tom ensures that every guest gets the right guidance from the start. With his training, you’ll quickly learn that axe throwing isn’t about strength — it’s about technique, precision, and control.
Safety Rules Everyone Follows
Before you throw your first axe, we go over the basics. These simple rules are designed to keep everyone safe while still having a blast:
- Closed-toe shoes only. Safety starts with proper footwear.
- Technique over power. Throwing too hard can cause bounce-backs. Focus on smooth, controlled throws.
- Never hand an axe to another person. Always place it in the holder box, and let the next thrower pick it up.
- Axes stay in the lane. They should never be left on tables, counters, or taken outside the throwing area.
- No trick shots. Stick to the proper technique you’re shown.
Why Technique Matters
If you’ve never thrown an axe before, it might feel unlike anything you’ve done — because it is! The motion requires a unique rhythm and distance. With the correct stance and proper distance from the target, the axe makes a full rotation and lands perfectly. You can throw one-handed or two-handed, and while the grip is slightly different, the principle remains the same: smooth technique, not raw strength.
The Epic Axe Throwing Advantage
We’ve designed our venue with safety in mind, so you can focus on fun:
- Caged throwing lanes — We’re the only axe throwing venue in Orlando where every lane is fully separated by cages, ensuring no one can accidentally cross paths with another thrower.
- Soft wooden targets — Our boards are made of specially selected soft wood, allowing the axe to stick easily. We even water the boards regularly, which keeps them soft, preserves their life, and “heals” small marks when the axe is removed.
- Professional-grade axes — Every axe features a wood stock and balanced metal head, giving throwers the best possible feel and rotation.
- On-site coaching — An axe coach is always watching to make sure everyone follows the rules and gets tips for improvement.
More Than Just Throwing
Once you get the hang of it, we’ll introduce fun games that add competition and variety to your session. With our coaches guiding you and safety built into every aspect of our venue, all you have to do is focus on having an epic time.
